The government’s bad bet against online poker

While our nation’s leaders discuss how they will fix our economy and grow jobs, it is infuriating to know that a Maryland native who recently won big in the 2012 World Series of Poker has been forced to live in Canada because of our government’s outlawing of online poker [“Md. college dropout wins a million bucks in World Series of Poker,” Metro, July 15].

By prohibiting online play, our country’s misguided laws are driving honest taxpayers to other countries, where they can use their skills to earn a living. Instead of restricting our freedoms, Congress should license and regulate online poker so that the revenue and jobs it creates could contribute to our country’s welfare.
