A proper priority expressed through popularity

Patrick McGinn [“Popularity is not the right metric,” letters, Jan. 6] claimed that children screaming for ice cream instead of fruit is comparable to popular support for Medicare and Social Security. He then claimed to choose “conservative intelligence” over progressive popularity. That “intelligence” is preventing him from recognizing the proper priorities that are clearly voiced in the popularity of these bedrock programs.
