In her Jan. 25 op-ed, “Mark the date, not the town,” MaryAnn Murtha suggested that we honor the tragedy at Newtown, Conn., by giving it the name “12/14,” similar to the way we refer to the tragedy of 9/11. But how many other calamities must we identify by date? Let’s do something real to honor the victims: Pass meaningful legislation to limit gun violence. That would be a real tribute.
