The risk of exposing vulnerabilities

Regarding the Dec. 26 front-page article “Health systems at risk of hacking”:

When reporting for public consumption on national security matters, is there not a line beyond which informative general information morphs into “gratuitous granularity?” It seems to me that giving the details of where and how our health systems’ electronic data are vulnerable amount to precisely that.

As with reporting particulars of our military inventory and disposition of forces, not to mention intelligence operations such as covert plans in Africa, this kind of “chapter and verse” recounting saves considerable time and effort for those bent on doing our country harm.
