Tom Toles Cartoon Caption Contest Official Rules

The Tom Toles Cartoon Caption Contest ("Contest") is sponsored by WP Company LLC ("Sponsor"), 1150 15th Street, NW, 7th Floor, Washington DC 20071.

ELIGIBILITY
Contest open only to individuals who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia and who are 18 years of age or older. An entrant who is 18 years of age or older but a minor under applicable state law must have permission from his/her parent or legal guardian in order to participate. Directors, officers, employees and independent contractors of Sponsor and its affiliates, subsidiaries, divisions, and advertising and promotion agencies involved in this Contest (as well as each member of their immediate family and of their household) are not eligible. Void outside of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, and where prohibited by law. All federal, state and local laws apply.

Your your suggested caption(s) can be submitted in one of the following two ways: (i) Submit your suggested caption(s) in the comments section of the Contest cartoon on washingtonpost.com. Submissions will be accepted beginning at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) on March 1, 2012 and must be received no later than 12:00 p.m. ET on March 6, 2012 ("Contest Entry Period"). Each suggested caption constitutes an "Entry." Entries must be original work. In the event two or more valid entries contain the identical caption, only the first of those entries will be eligible. (ii) Submit your suggested caption(s) on the “Tom Toles Cartoon Caption Contest” post on the Wall of Tom Toles’s Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/tomtoles. Submissions will be accepted beginning at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) on March 1, 2012 and must be received no later than 12:00 p.m. ET on March 6, 2012 ("Contest Entry Period"). Each suggested caption constitutes an "Entry." Entries must be original work. In the event two or more valid entries contain the identical caption, only the first of those entries will be eligible.

Entries that are late, unintelligible, incomplete, unreadable, damaged, destroyed, delayed, tampered with, forged, misdirected or otherwise not in compliance with these Official Rules will be disqualified. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any entrant who submits an Entry which Sponsor believes may be defamatory, obscene, profane, offensive, harassing, inappropriate or that may infringe upon or violate another party's rights.

By entering the Contest and beginning on the date and at the time of entry, each entrant grants Sponsor an unrestricted, royalty-free, perpetual right to display, modify, perform, copy and create derivative work from his/her Entry.

SELECTION OF A WINNER.
On or about March 6, 2012, one (1) Contest winner will be selected by the editorial cartoonist of The Washington Post (the "Judge"). The Judge will choose a winning caption from among eligible entries on the basis of the following criteria: humor, originality and creativity. All decisions of the Judge are final and cannot be appealed.
