Regarding the Aug. 7 front-page story “A never-ending sprint for campaign cash”:
I cannot understand why there is not more public outrage about the amount of money that is spent on campaigning. People should be sick and tired of candidates trying to buy their way into office. Billions are spent on advertisements and trips when the money could be spent on something that actually helps people.
Considering the supposedly great minds that conduct government affairs, it seems that someone could devise a much less costly method of reaching voters with the candidates’ ideas. Why can’t the major networks all donate time so the candidates could express their views?
It doesn’t seem to matter much that people are losing their homes or don’t have enough money to clothe and feed their families. The candidates would prefer to raise and spend their money bashing each other to elicit votes.
It is a sad situation.
