Regarding the Sept. 5 editorial “Targeting abortion”:

After a nearly 16-year legislative struggle, Virginia will issue regulations governing abortions performed in the first three months of pregnancy. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit in Richmond upheld similar proposals in a challenge to a South Carolina law.

The regulations reflect the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’ safety guidelines for surgery, Planned Parenthood’s medical standards, National Abortion Federation practices and the American Institute of Architects’ medical facility standards.

As to critics who question our motives, we openly profess that all children before birth have the same inalienable right to life as persons who are born.

Anderson is medical director of the Tepeyac Family Center. Marshall, a Republican, represents the 13th District in Virginia’s House of Delegates.

The Sept. 5 editorial stated that “abortions are among the safest of medical procedures.” Don’t forget that abortion procedures have a 100 percent infant mortality rate.
