A pair of tepid jobs reports, landmark Supreme Court decisions on health care and immigration and an unprecedented barrage of negative ads have shaped the opening months of the presidential campaign. The impact on the horserace: virtually none.

This Washington Post-ABC News poll was conducted by telephone July 5 to 8, 2012, among a random national sample of 1,003 adults, including landline and cell phone-only respondents. Results for the full sample have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus four percentage points and a four point error margin for the sample of 855 registered voters. Sampling, data collection and tabulation by Abt-SRBI of New York.
