This cocktail from Robert Vermeire, a famed Prohibition-era bartender at London's Embassy Club, spotlights the unique flavor that Swedish punsch adds to the mix. Kronan, a Swedish punsch imported by Haus Alpenz, is available in the District at Ace Beverage.

In his book, Vermeire claims that this drink is named after the monarch of an island in the south Philippines "who is now 37 years old, weighs 23 pounds, and his height is 32 inches."

Ingredients
  • Ice
  • 1 1/2 ounces apple brandy, preferably Calvados
  • 3/4 ounce Swedish punsch
  • 3/4 ounce freshly squeezed grapefruit juice

Directions

Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add the apple brandy, Swedish punsch and grapefruit juice. Shake well, then strain into a chilled cocktail (martini) glass.
