A tense relationship: Obama and Netanyahu

President Barack Obama came into office in 2009 pledging to push hard for an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal. The Post’s Scott Wilson explains that Obama wanted to restore America’s reputation as a credible mediator in the long conflict, and in doing so, the president believed he needed to regain Arab trust and talk tough to Israel.
