Williams spent less than three years as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Caribbean, but the experience followed him throughout his life. Not only did Williams later served as minority recruitment coordinator and project evaluation officer in the Corps Chicago office, he also met his future wife Rosa while serving.
Now, Williams will return to the organization as its director. In the position, he'll head an agency that boasts 7,500 volunteers serving throughout the world. "I look forward to making [President Obama's] call to public service a reality for more Americans," Williams said at his swearing-in ceremony. "I am committed to recruiting, training, and supporting the next generation of skilled and enthusiastic volunteers eager to serve side-by-side with members of Peace Corps host communities around the world."
