Andrew McLaughlin

Former Obama Administration staffer and Google executive Andrew McLaughlin is the head of Civic Commons, a government open-source project.
At Google, McLaughlin held one of the most powerful jobs in technology. The former director of global public policy helped shape the company's mission and its work expanding Internet infrastructure in the developing world.

McLaughlin grew up in Minnesota and North Dakota. He attended Yale as an undergraduate before moving to Harvard for law school. In Cambridge, McLaughlin was a member of Harvard's Legal Aid Bureau.
After earning his J.D. in 1994, McLaughlin clerked for Judge Gerald W. Heaney of the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
McLaughlin is one of three Google executives who have taken on a big role in the Obama administration. Former Google project manager Katie Stanton joined the White House's new media team as director of citizen participation, but left in July 2010 to join Twitter's international business strategy group. Sonal Shah, former head of global development at Google.org, runs the White House Office of Social Innovation.
Company CEO Eric Schmidt is a member of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
He has a long history of donating to Democratic political causes, including $2,300 to Barack Obama in the 2008 race, as well as Reps. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) and Sens. Al Franken (D-Minn.) and Mark Begich (D-Alaska).
