Why He Matters

An Air Force veteran and businessman, Johnson defeated two-term Rep. Charlie Wilson (D), winning southeast Ohio's 6th Congressional District in 2010.

A resident of Ohio since just 2006, Johnson has been active in promoting anti-tax measures in the state. As founder of the Ohio Sales Tax Reform Initiative, he has lobbied for legislation seeking to establish sales-tax free holidays in Ohio. He has also championed his region's coal industry and been a vocal opponent of cap-and-trade energy measures.

The Issues

Regarding his political beliefs, Johnson said: "I'm pro-life, pro-gun, and for smaller government, lower taxes, less government intrusion, sticking to the Constitution, and I'm for God and family values - that's what I stand for."

In his role as founder of the Ohio Sales Tax Reform Initiative, Johnson worked with state Rep. Kevin Bacon (R) to introduce a bill to eliminate the state-sales tax six days a year.
