A fourth-generation native Missourian, Long is an auctioneer with no previous political experience before running for Congress. Also a former talk-radio host and real-estate agent, Long jumped into the 2010 game of Missouri political musical chairs. He said he was "fed up" with Washington insiders and promoted his small-business experience.
The 7th district was vacated by Rep. Roy Blunt (R), who successfully ran for the Missouri Senate seat vacated by retiring Sen. Kit Bond (R). Long's opponent, Scott Eckersley (D), was formerly employed as legal counsel to then-Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt (R), Sen.-elect Blunt's son.
Billy Long is a fourth-generation native of southwestern Missouri, a former talk-radio host, and an auctioneer and realtor who owns what he calls the "biggest auction company in the state."
Long is one of the few House members who doesn't hold a college degree, but he d graduated from the Missouri Auction School and earned his Certified Auctioneer Institute designation from the University of Indiana-Bloomington. .
As part of his plan to revitalize the Missouri economy, Long supports free trade.
A lifelong hunter and fisherman, Long heartily supports Second Amendment rights.
During his 2010 campaign, Long was endorsed by former Ark. Gov. Mike Huckabee.
