A self-proclaimed "non-politician", first-time candidate Schilling wants to see an end to "out-of-control spending" by both Democrats and Republicans.
Schilling is a pizzeria owner and father of ten who was inspired to run against two-term incumbent Rep. Phil Hare (D) for a seat in Illinois' 17th district in the wake of Obama's 2008 presidential win, when the economy was worsening and Congress continued to accept raises.

Schilling was born in Rock Island, Ill., in 1964. After graduating from Black Hawk College, he went to work at the Container Corporation of America from 1983 to 1987. While there, he served as a union steward in the local 191 United Paperworkers International Union.
Schilling went on to work in insurance and financial services for the Prudential Insurance Company from 1987 to 1995, during which time he served as treasurer of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union.
In his 2010 House bid, Schilling ran on a platform fiscal responsibility and conservative social values.
He is a tea party candidate, having been endorsed by the Quincy Tea Party, and a "9/12" candidate who is committed to nine conservative principles and 12 values laid out by Fox News host Glenn Beck.
As a first-time House candidate, Schilling was endorsed by 2008 presidential nominee and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Illinois Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill.).
