Why He Matters
Before Baird represented Washington's 3rd district, he had established himself as a successful clinical psychologisist, authoring two books. By 1996 he was ready to leave his career in academia and made an unsuccessful run at Congress. Two years later, he won. In December 2009, Baird announced he would retire from Congress in 2010.
He was replaced by then-state Rep. Jaime Herrera (R).
