Cameron F. Kerry

General Counsel at the Department of Commerce (since May 2009)

(Mintz, Levin)

Why He Matters

Those close to Senator John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) know who Cameron Kerry is, even if the majority of the U.S. doesn't. Cameron, the younger brother of Sen. Kerry, has long advised his powerful sibling, aiding his campaigns since 1972. But the younger Kerry has always stayed in the background, eschewing public service himself. That changed as Cameron agreed to become the Commerce Department's general counsel.

A longtime legal veteran, Kerry has spent the majority of his career representing cable companies for the national law firm Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo. A convert to Judaism, Kerry helped advise his brother's 2004 presidential campaign and acted as the Massachusetts senator's emissary to Israel. While in Israel, the younger Kerry called for America to strike a stronger attitude towards Saudi Arabia.
