Why She Matters
Elected in November 2002 because she aligned herself with President George W. Bush and had immense recognition in Michigan, Miller has been a moderate lawmaker representing suburban Detroit's 10th district.
In Macomb County, a place once synonymous with Reagan Democrats, Miller has kept her seat by seeking to protect auto and other manufacturing jobs as well as the Great Lakes that border her district. An early Bush ally, Miller softened her partisan streak in recent years. Nonetheless, she sided with her party on most major issues during the Obama administration.
