Lee resigned his congressional seat on February 9, 2011, only hours after the web site Gawker posted shirtless pictures of the married congressman that Lee himself had sent to a woman he met on a Craigslist dating message board.
While in office, Lee had compiled a moderate record, opposing Democrats on big issues like the 2009 $787 billion economic stimulus, but supporting embryonic stem-cell research and an expansion of a children's health-care program.

A product of the Buffalo suburbs, Lee was born in 1964 in Kenmore, N.Y. and was raised in nearby Tonawanda. His father owned a small manufacturing business that churned out machine components.
The Lees have a rich political history; Lee's father was a reliable GOP fundraiser and Lee's sister served as an aide to then-Gov. George Pataki (R-N.Y.). But, Lee has said he was always the least likely of his four siblings to enter politics.
Through February 2010, Lee had voted 91.6 percent of the time with his party during the 111th Congress.
While in office, Lee was a consistent spending hawk who voted against the $787-billion economic stimulus package in February 2009 as well as opposed of the 2010 federal budget plans, even those supported by the GOP.
Lee worked closely with Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.), the ranking Republican on the House Financial Services Committee in the 111th Congress and the chairman in the GOP-led 112th Congress.
On a regional level, Lee built a relationship with New York Reps. Louise Slaughter and Brian Higgins, who represent neighboring districts.
