Though he isn't as prominent as his boss, Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau, Keenan is a core part of Obama's young speechwriting team.
Keenan has penned some of Obama's most memorable presidential speeches. He collaborated with the president on the January 2011 speech for the memorial of the shooting in Tucson, Ariz., that blended a eulogy for the six victims, and surviving Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), with an inspirational call to rise above harshly-partisan political discourse.
