Dennis J. Kucinich (D-Ohio)
U.S. Representative (since January 1997)

(Kucinich Facebook page)
Kucinich is one of the highest-profile liberals in the U.S. Congress. He has long supported a single-payer health-care system, same-sex marriage and universal pre-kindergarten.
He has been a staunch opponent of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. He introduced articles of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney and President George W. Bush for allegedly manipulating the country into the Iraq war. More recently, he has denounced the U.S. offensive in Libya, wondering whether President Obama committed an "impeachable offense" by ordering the strikes.

Born in Cleveland, Kucinich attended Cleveland State University between 1967 and 1970 before earning a B.A. and an M.A. from Case Western Reserve University in 1973.
He unsuccessfully ran for the Cleveland City Council in 1967. He won two years later, becoming a councilman at age 23.
A reliable liberal and staunch anti-war advocate, Kucinich stands apart from other House Democrats for his quixotic stands and unsuccessful presidential runs.
In 2007, Kucinich filed articles of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney, charging that he violated the U.S. Constitution by taking the country to war with lies about weapons of mass destruction and the connections between Iraq and al-Qaeda. The following year, Kucinich introduced 35 articles of impeachment against President George W. Bush, charging him with abusing executive power, manufacturing evidence and misleading Congress into war.
A member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Kucinich is typically allied with liberal congressmen.
But he has cultivated partnerships with Republican colleagues with whom he has common ground on particular issues. For instance, he has repeatedly allied with Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.) and Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) on legislation relating to wars and civil liberties.
