The number of political staffers who qualify for profiles in Vogue are few and far between. But Abedin is no ordinary aide. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton's longtime aide and 'body person' is famous for her style and her poise under pressure.
Abedin certainly faced plenty of it in summer 2011 when her husband, Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) admitted having inappropriate electronic relationships with at least six women before and after their marriage (ceremony conducted by Bill Clinton) in July 2010. Weiner apologized to Abedin, who didn't show for the bizarre presser, and said he loved her very much and hoped they would weather the storm.

Abedin was born in Kalamazoo, Mich., but her family moved to Saudi Arabia when she was two. She lived there until college, when she attended George Washington University.
In Riyadh, Abedin's Indian father founded his own institute on interfaith understanding and her Pakistani mother, a well-known sociology professor, started one of the first private women's colleges in the country. "I grew up in a very traditional family," Abedin told Vogue. "But there was never anything I didn't think I could do."
Clinton has been criticized for filling her office at the State Department with political hands and close friends like Abedin. "What [Abedin] knows about foreign policy remains a mystery, but she knows the Clinton political operation," wrote the American Spectator's R. Emmett Tyrrell.
But allies say Abedin, who is Muslim and fluent in Arabic, is one of Clinton's most-trusted advisers on the Middle East. The likes of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Queen Noor of Jordan have praised Abedin's expertise on those issues. Associates said that when Clinton hosts meetings on the region, Abedin's advice is always sought.
Abedin is married to Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), who was often spotted at Abedin's side on the 2008 presidential campaign trail. Bill Clinton performed the ceremony in July 2010.
Abedin has long been one of the core members of 'Hillaryland,' a group of devoted Clintonites who have been with Clinton since her stint as first lady. These women include Lissa Muscatine, now a speechwriter at the State Department; Cheryl Mills, Clinton's State Department chief of staff; Ambassador-at-Large for Women's Issues Melanne Verveer; forner Obama health adviser Neera Tanden and Judith McHale, under secretary for public diplomacy and public affairs.
