Dubbed the next Sarah Palin by her fans, Noem won South Dakota's at-large House seat in the 2010 midterm elections, beating out popular incumbent Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-S.D.).
Called a "made-for-Fox news star" by The Washington Post, Noem is a cattle-rancher who hunts elk, skins pheasants and shoots prairie dogs, and raises her two teenage daughters and a gaggle of nieces and nephews with her husband, Bryon.

Path to Power
Noem graduated from Hamlin High School in 1990 and began college at Northern State, later transferring to South Dakota State University and taking classes at Mount Marty in Watertown.

In winning the GOP nod over two-better known, candidates, Noem emphasized her business and farming background as the owner of a hunting lodge and her quick climb in the state House as the assistant majority leader.

Before winning the June 8 GOP primary to challenge Rep. Herseth Sandlin, Noem was a relative unknown on the national stage.
