Why She Matters

During her successful 2010 House campaign against freshman Rep. Bobby Bright (D-Ala.), Roby ran against the conservative Democrat by pointing to the first vote he cast in Congress: for Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) as House speaker.

Though Bright voted against most marquee Democratic legislation during his first term, Roby blamed him for empowering Pelosi's agenda "that has exploded the deficit with wasteful spending, stifles job creation with new regulations and taxes, and expands government."

Path To Power

A native of Montgomery, Ala., Roby was born in 1976 and is the daughter of Joel Dubina, a private-practice lawyer who was named in 2009 the chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Roby graduated from New York University in 1998 with a degree in music. During her 2010 House campaign she said if she's "probably be a fantastic singer, but for now I probably should stick with public service."

The Issues

Throughout her 2010 House campaign, Roby invoked her "common sense conservative vision" as a way to stop "wasteful spending and job killing legislation coming out of Washington."

During the campaign, Roby criticized cap-and-trade policies to fight climate change as an example of House Democrats' "job killing" agenda. "With Nancy Pelosi in charge, we can expect Cap and Trade and more to come down [the] pike," she said.

The Network

Roby embraced the endorsements of former Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), calling them leaders of the conservative movement.
