Mitt Romney’s tenure as the CEO of Bain Capital has been one of the most talked about topics of the 2012 presidential election cycle — and it has become a serious issue for the Romney campaign.

Romney’s involvement with Bain has become the Obama campaign’s favorite attack target, with the campaign claiming that Romney was involved in Bain shipping jobs overseas, and that if Romney is going to run for president on his business experience, then the American people should know all that that experience entails.

The Romney campaign has fought back, claiming that Romney was not involved in the day-to-day operations of Bain Capital after 1999 when Romney left to run the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

What is the carried interest loophole, and why doesn’t Romney want to close it?

While we don't know a lot about Mitt Romney's tax burden, we do know that it was recently around 15 percent, due to a loophole in the tax code that he himself has signalled he wants to repeal. But now he's sounding more like he wants to keep it around.
