Obama and the ‘key’ liberal base

President Barack Obama’s relationship with the liberal base, namely gays and immigrants, has shifted from one of great expectation to tense confrontations to pragmatic coexistence in his first term. But the Post’s Peter Wallsten says the president needs the support of these ‘key’ electorates for a successful re-election this fall.
