Despite its name, the Office of Communications is less about actual communication (that job is reserved for the press secretary) and more about communications strategy. The office, which also includes the speechwriting staff, focuses on both long-range message planning and rapid response, as well as coordinating with outside organizations. The communications office is a big tent with different offices that focus on national media, local media, broadcast media, online media, etc. "Our goal is to ensure that no matter how you get your news, you get the White House's message and policies," Director of Media Affairs Christina Reynolds said, talking specifically about the office of new media.
