Path to Power
Reines grew up in New York City with his mother, an insurance broker, and his grandmother. His father was absent for most of his childhood, which Reines said turned him into a "master ruminator."
After high school, Reines spent a semester at the State University of New York at Albany before returning to New York City to tend bar. He then moved to Boston, where he attended college at night while working at a bank.
Over his desk at the State Department, Reines hung a picture of oil firefighter Red Adair. The reason? Adair put out uncontrollable fires by creating even larger explosions. Reines says this is "very fitting" for his job.
At State, Reines runs the strategic communications office, where he focuses on planning Secretary Clinton's press and public diplomacy efforts. For big trips, this means that Reines orchestrates all media events, town halls, interviews and public events.
Reines is a member of Clinton's inner circle, which includes the likes of Huma Abedin, Jake Sullivan,Melanne Verveer and Cheryl Mills.
Reines shares an office with Caroline Adler, Ellen Connell, Ashley Yehl, Dan Schwerin, David Helfenbein, and Nick Merrill.
According to Open Secrets, Reines has not given to any political campaigns.
