Political head winds: Immigration proves a bind for GOP
President Obama gets middling ratings in a new poll, and his marquee health reform law continues to be widely criticized by the public. But the GOP faces a dilemma of its own: passing an immigration law popular among Hispanics and unpopular with its base. Read related article.
This Washington Post-ABC News poll was conducted by telephone July 18 to 21 among a random sample of 1,002 adults. Interviews were conducted in English and Spanish on conventional and cellular phones. The overall results have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
