Path To Power
A Gulfport, Miss., native, Palazzo was born in 1970.
In 1988, Palazzo joined the Marine Corps Reserves, serving in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait during the Persian Gulf War. Palazzo enlisted in the Mississippi National Guard in 1997.
Palazzo advocates for returning Congress to a "God-centered, limited government" mentality. "Those are conservative principles that worked well for our country," Palazzo said in October 2010. "Every time we have gotten away from those principles, we've slipped a little further into despair."
Palazzo said he would push legislation for 12-year term limits for House and Senate members.
A social conservative, Palazzo said he would vote to allow religious activity on government property. "I believe the First Amendment grants us this basic right," Palazzo said. "It is unfortunate that we have to send our children to costly private schools in order to learn about our God, which this great country was founded upon."
Palazzo said he would oppose any legislation that would define marriage as anything other than being between a man and a woman.
