Timothy H. Bishop (D-N.Y.)
U.S. Representative (since January 2003)

(Congress Bio Directory)
A career college administrator, Bishop made his first run for Congress in 2002 with virtually no political experience. By November, the Long Island Democrat had earned a House seat and survived a crash course in negative campaigning.
Though he was originally declared the winner in a tough 2010 race against businessman Randy Altschuler (R), a recanvass of erratic electronic voting machines had the Republican ahead slightly a week after the election with 9,000 absentee ballots yet to be counted. After a month of ballot challenges and recounted votes, Bishop had regained the lead by 263 votes, and Altschuler conceded the race.
