Why He Matters
Weber, who served as a Minnesota representative from for 13 years, is a conservative lobbyist and consultant. He is now considered part of 2012 presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty's inner circle.
Weber came to Congress as part of the Reagan revolution and is credited with coordinating Newt Gingrich's (R-Ga.) successful campaign for House whip. By the early 1990s, he had developed a reputation as a savvy behind-the-scenes operator, a lawmaker who understood both politics and policy.Ironically, Pawlenty will now face Gingrich in the 2012 presidential primaries and Weber will square-off with his old friend on new turf.
