There is wide concern associated with the debt ceiling. More than three-quarters of poll respondents worry that raising the limit will lead to more spending. But just about as many are concerned that not doing so will end up hurting the economy. When forced to choose between these competing fears, more worry about the consequences of raising the debt ceiling than about what would happen if it is not raised.
