Rick Smith was named president and chief executive officer of Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. in 2006. Since that time, he has led the organization through significant managerial, strategic and cultural change and increased the Cooperative’s focus on its 13,000 members. He introduced core values and a strategic platform focused on increasing value to members, strengthening value-added farm programs and services, and increasing investments in profitable commercial activities. Previously, Rick served as chief executive officer of Dairylea Cooperative Inc., a Northeast milk marketing cooperative. Prior to that, he was a teacher, and an attorney with the Syracuse, N.Y.-based law firm of Bond, Schoeneck & King. Rick is a director on the boards of National Milk Producers Federation, Global Dairy Platform, National Council of Farmer Cooperatives and Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy, among other organizations.
