Syracuse

Location: Syracuse, N.Y.

2010 enrollment: 13,504 undergraduates, 4,381 graduate students.

Number of sports offered: 18 (seven men’s teams, 11 women’s teams).

National championships: 26 (including one national football title in 1959, one men’s basketball championship in 2003 and 11 NCAA men’s lacrosse titles).

National rank of television market: 82 (389,970 television homes).

Average home football attendance in 2010: 40,064 (would have ranked ninth in the ACC).

Average home basketball attendance in 2010-11: 22,312 (would have ranked first in the ACC).

Pittsburgh

Location: Pittsburgh.

2010 enrollment: 18,371 undergraduates, 10,452 graduate students.

Number of sports offered: 17 (eight men’s sports, nine women’s sports).

National championships: 12 (only one — the 1976 football title — after 1937).

National rank of television market: 24 (1,160,820 television homes).

Average home football attendance in 2010: 52,165 (would have ranked seventh in the ACC).

Average home basketball attendance in 2010-11: 10,843 (would have ranked fourth in the ACC).
