Anthony Philyaw rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns as Howard defeated Morgan State, 28-14, in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matchup Saturday in the District.
Philyaw opened the scoring with a one-yard run on fourth down in the first quarter and had two more touchdowns in the second half to help the Bison (3-5, 2-3 MEAC) extend the lead over the Bears (2-6, 2-2).
TOWSON 48, RICHMOND 32: Terrance West rushed for 272 yards and four touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass to lead the host Tigers to a victory over the Spiders in their Colonial Athletic Association matchup. Towson (8-1, 4-1) had little trouble with Richmond (2-6, 0-4), building a nine-point halftime lead then adding to that via a strong run game that amassed 341 yards.
COLGATE 34, GEORGETOWN 14: Gavin McCarney passed for 248 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for 109 yards, to lead the visiting Raiders over the Hoyas in a Patriot League contest.
Colgate (3-5, 2-0) amassed 309 yards on the ground and limited Georgetown (1-7, 0-2) to a paltry 54 yards rushing.
WILLIAM & MARY 17, JAMES MADISON 7: In Williamsburg, Jared Velasquez had a 90-yard interception return for a touchdown as the Tribe’s defense forced three turnovers and blocked a field goal attempt in the win over the Dukes (5-3, 2-2 Colonial. Williams & Mary (5-3, 2-2) wide receiver Tre McBride hauled in 10 receptions for 84 yards.
BOWIE STATE 34, VIRGINIA UNION 7: In Bowie, Keith Brown rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns, and Jared Johnston added 70 yards and a score as the Bulldogs emphatically ended the Panthers’ three-game winning streak. Virginia Union (3-5) tied the game at 7 in the second quarter, but from there it was all Bowie State (3-5), which ran off 27 unanswered points.
