Skinny

Stonewall Jackson has won the past seven district titles and more than 70 consecutive district games. That dominance does not seem likely to change this season, withFloyd (Wake Forest), G Danielle Burns (Fordham), Hinton (Bryant) and F Taylor Character (Capital) back. Burns is expected to be out at least until the postseason as she recovers from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. The Raiders lost to Potomac in the Northwest Region semifinals last season. Stonewall already has lost to Riverdale Baptist and H.D. Woodson this season. Floyd averaged 10.3 points and 9.5 rebounds and had 56 blocks last year. . . . Guard-oriented Battlefield boasts depth and ball handlers and should get help from freshmen Taylor Baltimore and Nikki Dyson. Jessi Whaley, a four-year varsity player, improved so much in the past year that she earned, and accepted, an offer from Virginia-Wise. . . . Sean Gundry is Broad Run’s third coach in three years. The Spartans return, among others, senors Ellie Ferguson, Alyssa Cabellos and Fatima Kamara, who combined for 28 ppg last season. . . . Osbourn returns its second through sixth scorers, and freshman Dominique Newman has been the Eagles’ leading scorer early on this season. . . . Patriot, entering its second varsity season, had no seniors last year and has received a boost from Battlefield junior transfer Robin, who already has two double-doubles. . . . Arnelle Collins (12.1 ppg) is back for Freedom-South Riding.
