Adding heft to an already meaty nonconference schedule, the Georgetown men’s basketball team is expected to take on Michigan State at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 1, the day before the Super Bowl.
The game will be part of a doubleheader conceived by Fox Sports, which is broadcasting the Super Bowl at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. The other basketball game is expected to be an all-Big East tilt between Marquette and St John’s.
Georgetown’s full 2013-14 schedule is not expected to be released for a few weeks, but its nonconference schedule includes the season opener against Oregon, the defending Pacific-12 champion and a Sweet 16 participant last season, on Nov. 8 at Camp Humphreys in South Korea.
Two weeks later, the Hoyas will travel to play in the Puerto Rico Tip-off. The eight-team field includes Michigan, which fell to Louisville in last season’s NCAA tournament title game, and Kansas State, which finished the season ranked No. 12.
On Dec. 21, the Hoyas take on perennial power Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse.
