No. 14 Georgetown vs. South Florida
Where: Verizon Center. When: 11 a.m.
John McDonnell/The Washington Post - The 14th-ranked Georgetown men’s basketball team and Henry Sims would be wise not to overlook South Florida on Saturday
No. 14 Georgetown vs. South Florida
Where: Verizon Center. When: 11 a.m.
TV: ESPNU. Radio: WWXT (92.7 FM), WWXX (94.3 FM), WTEM (980 AM).
Records: Hoyas 17-4, 7-3 Big East; Bulls 13-9, 6-3.
Outlook: A season after averaging 3.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, center Henry Sims has scored in double figures eight times in the Hoyas’ 10 Big East games and has increased his output to 11.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists. In the final 8 minutes 30 seconds of the Hoyas’ 58-44 win over defending national champion Connecticut on Wednesday, Sims recorded six points (including a momentum-turning dunk), two blocked shots and a steal and made both of his free throws. Against South Florida, Sims is expected to matchup against 6-10 Clinton native Augustus Gilchrist. Two seasons ago, then-No. 7 Georgetown suffered a 72-62 loss to South Florida four days after beating No. 8 Duke. On Saturday, the Hoyas would be wise to focus on the upstart Bulls, not Wednesday’s matchup at No. 2 Syracuse. Led by Gilchrist’s team-best 10.7 points per game, the Bulls rank last in the Big East in scoring (62.1 points) but first in scoring defense (59). They’re also limiting opponents to 30.8 percent shooting from three-point range.
