The rivalry: Georgetown vs. Syracuse As Georgetown and Syracuse prepare to play for perhaps the last time as Big East rivals, here is a look at some of the their greatest games over the past three decades.
February 12, 1980
The rivalry began during the Big East's inaugural season in 1980, when the visiting Hoyas beat the Orangmen in the last scheduled regular season game at Manley Field House. After Eric "Sleepy" Floyd (with ball) made the winning free throws in a 52-50 upset win, Georgetown Coach John Thompson Jr. proclaimed "Manley Field House is officially closed."

Syracuse Coach Jim Boeheim and Georgetown Coach John Thompson Jr. were the faces of the rivalry and were polar opposites. Thompson was a 6-foot-10 mountain of a man, while Boeheim was a balding introvert.
