We’ll have stories, photo galleries, videos and box scores from games around the area later tonight. But for now we offer you an early look at some notable games. Know of something significant that happened tonight? We’d love to hear from you in the comments.

HUNTINGTOWN TOPS PATUXENT: The 20th-ranked Hurricanes won a battle of undefeated teams in the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference, beating the 13th-ranked Panthers, 42-35. We will have a full game story and photo gallery later. For now, check out tweets from Post reporter Roman Stubbs. Huntingtown improves to 7-0.

WOOTTON A WINNER: Sophomore quarterback Sam Ellis hit on 18 of 33 passes for 213 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Patriots past the Barons, 40-20, in a battle of Maryland 4A West playoff hopefuls in Rockville.

Wootton (4-3, 4-0 Maryland 4A South) scored on its first two possessions and took a 26-7 lead when Ellis connected with senior Joe Stapleton on a 14-yard score with 34 seconds left in the first half. Ellis had 162 passing yards and all three touchdowns — each to a different receiver — in the first two quarters.

Senior tight end Miles Green led the Patriots with six catches for 101 receiving yards and also added a one-yard rushing score in the fourth quarter. Wide receiver Trevon Diggs continued his strong freshman season with four catches for 41 yards and a touchdown.

“I stressed to the kids -- next loss we’re out” of the playoff race, Wootton Coach Tyree Spinner said. “Yeah, we’d still be mathematically able to make the playoffs, but you don’t want to be in that situation where you don’t control your own destiny. Our backs are against the wall right now, and they showed they’re going to continue to fight.”

Senior Jack Sieber had an 87-yard kickoff return touchdown and a three-yard rushing touchdown for Bethesda Chevy-Chase (4-3, 2-2). We’ll have a full game story later.

CHANTILLY KNOCKS OFF OAKTON: The 15th-ranked Cougars fall to the Chargers, 42-21. We will have video from the game on our site later tonight.

STONE BRIDGE CRUISES: The second-ranked Bulldogs scored on their first six possessions en route to a 63-6 win over Marshall.

QUINCE ORCHARD ROLLS: The 12th-ranked Cougars (6-1) defeated Richard Montgomery, 42-0.

GOOD COUNSEL DOES ENOUGH: The top-ranked Falcons beat McNamara, 22-0, in a Washington Catholic Athletic Conference game.

McDONOUGH STAYS PERFECT: The Rams move to 7-0 with a 28-21 win over North Point in a Southern Maryland Athletic Conference contest.

McDONOUGH’S WILD WIN: In a chaotic finish, the Rams (7-0, 5-0 SMAC) scored 28 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, including the game-winning touchdown after their own field goal attempt was blocked in the closing minutes, to beat archrival North Point (4-3, 3-3) in a Southern Maryland Athletic Conference game in Pomfret, 28-21.

McDonough trailed 21-20 with less than two minutes to play when North Point blocked the potential go-ahead field goal attempt and a North Point player picked up the ball before it was blown dead.

Rams defensive backs coach Mike Rucker alerted senior linebacker Christian Cole that the ball was still live, Cole walked over and took it out of the North Point player’s hands, then sprinted about 25 yards to the end zone for the go-ahead score.

“He walked over non-chalantly, took a couple steps with the ball then took off on a dead sprint,” McDonough Coach Luke Ethington said. “It was the most bizarre play I have ever seen. It was incredible.”

The McDonough rally started early in the fourth quarter when quarterback Devone Boone found James Harrell and Lucas Ethington, Jr. for touchdown passes on consecutive drives.

Junior running back Bobby Harris scored a rushing touchdown to cut the lead to 21-20 before the PAT attempt was blocked, then a quick defensive stop by the Rams defense and a punt return by Harrell set up the late field goal attempt.

The win is the Rams’ first against North Point since 2008.
