George Mason vs. Hofstra

Records: Patriots 19-6, 11-2 CAA; Pride 8-17, 2-11.
Outlook: With five conference games remaining, the Patriots are in a three-way jam for first place in the CAA with Virginia Commonwealth and Drexel. Entering the week, the CAA and Big 12 were the only leagues with three teams sharing the top spot. Elsewhere Wednesday, VCU hosts one-win Towson and Drexel is at ninth-place James Madison. A victory Wednesday would lift the Patriots to 20 wins for the sixth time in nine seasons. They’ve won 12 of their past 14, are 12-1 at home and have won 16 consecutive CAA games at Patriot Center. Hofstra, tied for 10th place, has lost 10 of 12 and is 1-8 on the road, the only victory coming at James Madison. In the first meeting between the Patriots and Pride two weeks ago, GMU scored the final seven points to pull out a 55-50 victory on Long Island. Hofstra senior G Mike Moore has scored 20-plus points 14 times and leads the CAA at 19.4 ppg. Despite poor shooting performances in three of the past four games, the Patriots continue to lead the league in scoring (70.2) and field goal percentage (45.4). “I can’t explain what’s going on with our shooting,” Coach Paul Hewitt said. “We’ll get it right.” Senior F Ryan Pearson is averaging 17.8 points and 8.8 rebounds.
