Records: Patriots 20-6, 12-2 CAA; Seahawks 9-15, 5-9.
Outlook: The Patriots have flirted with trouble against weaker conference opponents all season, and with Tuesday’s showdown against Virginia Commonwealth looming, Saturday’s game against the stumbling Seahawks is fraught with danger. In the first meeting with the Seahawks, George Mason overcame a dreary start with a 19-2 surge bridging the halves to claim a 67-61 victory. The Patriots have won 13 of 15 and, with two weeks remaining in the regular season, are tied for first place in the CAA with VCU and Drexel. Sophomore G Sherrod Wright has been effective off the bench in every other game for the past month, averaging 15.2 points in five outings and 5.5 in the other four. He has made 29 of his past 31 free throw attempts and leads the CAA at 84.7 percent. Senior F Mike Morrison made 10 of 12 free throws in the past two games after going 12 of 34. Sophomore G Vertrail Vaughns, a starter all season, has scored in double figures just once in the past 10 games. However, Coach Paul Hewitt said Wednesday that he has no plans to change the lineup. Junior F Keith Rendleman is averaging 15 points and a CAA-best 10.9 rebounds for the Seahawks, who have lost eight of 10 and are the only team to lose to Towson since December 2010.
