Basketball: Capital Classic all-star game rosters
By Paul Tenorio,
Eight prospects bound for local colleges, including four Maryland recruits, headline the U.S. All-Star roster for the Capital Classic, which will be held April 21 at T.C. Williams in Alexandria.
The U.S. roster will face off against a Capital All-Stars team made up of several of the area’s most lauded players, many of which are also headed to local schools. That group is led by Paul VI guard Patrick Holloway (George Mason) and forward Coleman Johnson (Fairfield), Episcopal guard Kethan Savage (George Washington) and forward Arnaud Adala Moto (Wake Forest), Landon guard Joe McDonald (George Washington) and Montrose Christian forwards Justin Anderson (Virginia) and Michael Carrera.
The U.S. roster is most certainly Terps-heavy. Center Shaquille Cleare of The Village School (Tex.), Fredericksburg Christian guard Seth Allen, Queen Anne’s County (Md.) forward Damonte Dodd and forward Charles Mitchell of Wheeler (Ga.) — all Terps recruits — are on the U.S. roster.
Notre Dame Prep (Mass.) guard Sam Cassell, Jr., who has drawn headlines regarding the status of his commitment to Maryland, will play for the U.S. all-stars. The squad also includes Virginia recruits Mike Tobey of Blairstown, NJ and Evan Nolte of Alpharetta, Ga., and Virginia Tech recruit Montrezl Harrell of Hargrave Military Academy.
According to reports, Cassell, Jr., the son of Washington Wizards assistant Sam Cassell, decommitted from Maryland and is considering four schools, including the Terps.
The Capital roster also features Largo guard Derrick Colter, T.C. Williams forward T.J. Huggins, Magruder forward Garland Owens. Also on the Capital team are Riverdale Baptist forward Brandon Peel and Coolidge guard Khalen Cumberlander, both bound for Central Connecticut State.
Episcopal Coach Jim Fitzpatrick will coach the Capital All-Stars while Harry Martin of Baltimore’s Patterson High will coach the U.S. team.
