Basketball preview: AAA National District boys
By Brandon Parker,
G Chief Amoah, Edison, 5-9, Jr.
G/F Marcus Brumsey, Edison, 6-1, Jr.
F Nick Yore, Yorktown, 6-4, Sr.
G Khory Moore, Wakefield, 6-1, Sr.
The backcourt of juniors Amoah and Brumsey make Edison a strong contender within the district. The Eagles’ mettle will be tested early with matchups against Gar-Field, T.C. Williams and Yorktown to start the schedule.
Wakefield has one player with varsity experience but he’s a stout one in Moore, who can take over a game with his scoring ability. Coach Tony Bentley also likes the potential of Ermias Nega, who tallied 24 points and 13 rebounds in a season-opening win against Fairfax. . . . Yorktown’s stingy zone defense and wealth of size in the 6-4, 202-pound Yore and 6-2 guard Zack Escherick make the Patriots a team to watch. ... Sens provides a strong post presence for a Washington-Lee squad that returns three of its top four scorers from a year ago. ... Shawney Loveitt (13.4 points) returns to lead Mount Vernon, which knocked off West Potomac in its season opener for the first time since 2009.
