George Mason won Virginia A Division 2 state titles in 2009 and 2010 and fell in the state semifinals last year. Cheney is the reigning Bull Run District player of the year. Alexander and Roth were also first-team selections and senior forward Lauren Kane is another key Mustangs returnee. . . . Manassas Park has seven seniors. . . .
In the Virginia AA Evergreen District, Fauquier and Brentsville have almost entirely new teams, and Brentsville and Kettle Run have new coaches, Tim Brown at Brentsville and Sarah Ventresco at Kettle Run. . . . 2011 Fauquier graduate Brianna Brizzi made the Pitt women’s team as a walk-on. . . . Brentsville, thinned by the opening of nearby Patriot, has 15 players total in the varsity and junior varsity programs. Sophomore twins Becca and Ashley Winslow are third generation Brentsville students.
