As always, the conference will be loaded with talent, but this season could bring more parity than normal. Defending league champ Paul VI lost three of its top players but still features plenty of depth and talent anchored by Robinson and sophomore forward Marcus Derrickson. . . Top-ranked Gonzaga will again be paced by first-team All-Met Jenkins, who averaged 20.4 points and 10.6 rebounds last season. Jenkins, a Villanova recruit, stands to benefit from the return of point guard Bryant Crawford, who missed last year with a leg injury. ...
DeMatha will be looking to regain the conference crown it’s held for six of the last eight years. Anya, an N.C. State commit, will give opponents problems in the post while senior Jairus Lyles poses a strong perimeter threat. . . . Returning second-team All-Met Trimble moves to point guard for an O’Connell squad that should be boosted by transfer forward Junior Etou. . . . Anderson, an all-WCAC first-team selection last season, leads a balanced St. John’s team that starts five capable juniors under first-year coach Sean McAloon.
