Turkey Bowl: Dunbar faces Anacostia for the DCIAA city championship

At stake: The DCIAA city championship and a berth in the inaugural DCSAA championship on Dec. 1 at Howard University.

Watch for: The quarterback matchup between Dunbar’s Lamel Matthews and Anacostia’s Dequan Turner. Both have lively arms that can stretch the field, but both took over their respective semifinals with their feet. Matthews rushed for 62 yards to compliment his 100 yards passing and a touchdown, while Turner ran for 51 yards (including a 21-yard touchdown run in the first half against Wilson) and threw for 146 and another touchdown. Whichever talented signal-caller can limit mistakes and make plays with his feet will have the edge.

Skinny: Anacostia (6-5) is playing in the Turkey Bowl in place of Wilson, which was disqualified earlier this week for using an ineligible player earlier this season. But the program has taken considerable strides under the leadership of first-year Coach Cato June, who has improved roster numbers and morale at the school. The Indians face a tradition-rich Dunbar (8-3) program that will be making its third consecutive appearance in the Turkey Bowl and .
