By Matt Brooks,
Virginia volleyball region semifinals took place Tuesday, setting the stage for Thursday’s semifinals with state tournament berths on the line. Here are Tuesday’s quarterfinal results and the semifinal schedules for the Northern and Northwest Regions in AAA and AA Region II.

The Warhawks failed to reach the region tournament last season with an 11-13 record but now find themselves one win away from the state tournament.
Fresh off their first Liberty District tournament title since 2007, the Saxons will look to snap a streak of two straight five-set losses in the region semifinals.
The second-ranked Bulldogs moved one step closer to defending their consecutive region titles and advancing to a third straight state tournament. Ryan Ackermann led Stone Bridge with 15 kills, Sarah Fairchild had 17 assists and Cydney Gill added 37 assists in the win.
The Stallions are into the semifinals for the first time since 2010 when they won the region and advanced to the state final. They knocked off Stone Bridge in the semifinals that season, and the Bulldogs have not lost in the Northern Region tournament since.
