Family reunion: The biggest story line when Washington heads west for the first time this season is the amount of transactions between the Mystics and Los Angeles in recent years. Washington’s roster features four players that have played for the Sparks at some point in their careers, two of whom were acquired in trades this offseason. Mystics assistant coach Jennifer Gillom was also the head coach in Los Angeles the past two seasons. The Sparks, meanwhile, now have former Washington star Alana Beard and former Mystics center Nicky Anosike (out for the season with a knee injury) on the roster.
Looking good: Forward Crystal Langhorne has been on a tear of late, averaging more than 23 points and eight rebounds the past three games. She scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds on Friday night when the Mystics ended a four-game losing streak with a 67-66 victory over the Indiana Fever.
Road woes: Monday’s contest is the first of three straight games away from Verizon Center for the Mystics, and the road has not been kind to Washington in recent years. The Mystics won just twice as the visiting team last year and have yet to win away from home this season.
